Media Backgrounder
In today’s business environment, where electronic mail
is the predominant method of communication, the e-mail recipient has complete
rights over confidential e-mails once they leave the sender’s outbox. With
this empowerment, any e-mail recipient can send, copy, print or forward sensitive
e-mail and attachments. The recipient can even inappropriately employ
or modify the e-mail message and forward it elsewhere. Recent media coverage
demonstrates damaging affects caused by e-mail messages and attachments landing
in the wrong “inboxes” of individuals both on the inside and outside
of an organization, including e-mail inboxes of competitors and the dreaded
appearance of confidential e-mail on an online “rumor” site.
What are business professionals doing to ensure their sensitive e-mail messages
stay confidential?
Founded in January, 2003, Treasure Coast Software developed
Mail-Lock™ to
address these significant e-mail concerns expressed by professionals in the
following sectors: legal, finance, human resource, marketing/advertising, medical
and local government. Headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Treasure Coast’s
mission is to provide innovative, easy-to-use solutions to help executives
protect company-sensitive information.
Mail-Lock Benefits
Designed for the more than 100 million Microsoft
Outlook™ users worldwide,
Mail-Lock’s EPIC™ functionality (E-mail Personal Information Containment)
lets e-mail users establish rules for the recipients of e-mail including:
• when
an e-mail can be viewed and for how long, and
•
whether or not the e-mail can be printed, copied, or forwarded—in addition
to controlling associated Microsoft Office attachments.
Mail-Lock requires
little or no training; has minimal, if any, impact on the IT infrastructure;
and is inexpensive?at the introductory price of $99 per
desktop and a later retail of $149. The Mail-Lock reader is free. Volume
discounts are available. The product can be purchased and downloaded online
in minutes,

Mail-Lock reseller.
How Mail-Lock Works
If the e-mail user can run Microsoft Outlook™ 2000, at least SR1 or
higher, Mail-Lock™ will operate properly.
Mail-Lock uses pop-up menus
and on-screen radio button wizards to accomplish its functionality. A user
simply installs the Mail-Lock Creator on the workstation
and then creates an e-mail. The user then selects the “Send with Mail-Lock” icon
on the Microsoft Outlook™ menu, sets the desired e-mail policies
and clicks Send.
To view the message, the e-mail recipient downloads the
Mail-Lock Reader,
a one-time process, and then opens the sent e-mail with the sender’s
policy controls in tact.
